Catholic Social Teachings: What do you know about it?

Catholic Social Teachings is a course I am taking right now as a requirement for master catechist certification. At first I was disappointed that I needed to take something I felt already very aware of, but as I delved into the book and discussions with other students, a realization came over me, is this widely known?

There are documents, in fact, several that discuss the situations in the world that are concerned with population, ecology, economic issues, the option for the poor, homeless, and peace, war, etc. The Church desires to help guide the world into the future in one piece.

Do you know about some of the documents of Vatican II? Gaudium et spes, Humanae Vite which just celebrated an anniversary, what about the other encyclicals from Pius XIII, Paul IV, John XXIII and John Paul II?

More later.....MUCH more.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! Even in our very well-rounded, faithful parish school there is still much of the Catechism that is not taught.

Looking forward to reading about your class!

God Bless,
Jane

Sounds like it will be an interesting course. I have been taking a break, but next week it's back to the school work.
