A Saint Report: St. Bridget of Sweden by Rebecca

Bridget was born in Sweden in 1303. When she was only ten, she seemed to see Jesus on the cross and hear him say, "Look at me daughter." "Who has treated you like that?" cried little Bridget. "They who despise me and refuse my love." answered Jesus. From then on, Bridget tried to stop people from offending Jesus.

When she was 14, she married 18 year old Ulf. Ulf, like Bridget was a very holy person and had his heart set on serving God. Together, they had 6 children, one of which became St. Catherine of Sweden. All her life, Bridget had marvelous visions of Jesus, the most famous of them was when Jesus revealed the 15 prayers to his wounds to her. After Ulf died she became a nun.

Shortly before her death, Bridget made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. During this time she had many visions of Jesus' passion. Bridget died in Rome on July 23, 1373 at the age of 70. She was proclaimed a saint in 1391. Pope John Paul II proclaimed her Co-patroness of Europe.

This report is a requirement in Rebecca's 7th grade religious studies.

I love St Bridget so much. She has been there for me in some very, very difficult times. She was a strong woman.
Her daughter Kathryn (Katrin) joined her mother's order after her husband died and is also a saint. She is the patron saint of mothers who have had miscarriages.

God bless
