St. Peter Damian....... A Saint Report by Sarah

St. Peter Damian was born in 1007 in Ravenna, Italy. He was an orphan as a child. His older brother, Charles, brought Peter to live with him, but treated him like a slave. Another older brother, Fr. Damian, came to take over his care and treated Peter with love and kindness. Peter was grateful to his brother and added Damian to his own name because of his kindness. Peter became a teacher and was very good at it, but God had other plans for him. Peter Damian lived when many people were forgetting that they were called to shine like Jesus, so after seven years of teaching, he decided to become a monk. In 1035, Peter went to a monastery of St. Romuald. His Abbott send him twice to other monasteries to draw the monks there closer to God. In 1043, Peter was elected Abbott and in 1057, Pope Stephen IX, named Peter Bishop of Ostia. Throughout his life, several Popes sent him to straighten out Church affairs in certain places. He wrote many books about the Church's teachings as well. Peter Damian, Bishop of Ostia, died at the age of 83.

Pope Leo XII declared him a Doctor of the Church in 1828 due to his accomplishments.
