A Saint Report: St. Matthias....... by Rebecca

Saint Matthias is the apostle that replaced Judas as the twelfth apostle. In the following days after the Ascension Peter proposed that they choose a replacement for Judas the betrayer. They wanted it to be someone who had been at Jesus’ baptism. One was Joseph called Barsabbas and the other was Matthias. The eleven apostles prayed and then cast lots. Matthias’ name was drawn and he became the twelfth apostle. There are two stories of how he died; one is that he was crucified for being an apostle. The other is that Jews stoned him to death because they didn’t like what he was preaching. We don’t know exactly when he died. His feast day is May 15th.

This is a requirement for Rebecca's religious studies.
