Gas Mileage: Let's cut it down!

Hypermiling is the current and probably best way to conserve your gas consumption. I have been doing this for a couple of days now and I will keep you posted on how my mpg fares.

Here's how to begin hypermiling:

1.Drive the speed limit and no higher!!

2.Coast when you can, don't always have your foot on the accelerator

3.Don't step on the gas and hear your engine roar upon accelerating from stops.

4.Use your brakes sparingly, coast up to intersections, turns, etc.

5.Keep up with your mpg and keep challenging yourself to conserve more.

Laugh as you see others speeding passed you and screeching to hauls, they are paying bigger gas bills than you are.

I just don't think I can do that! I'll never get anywhere if I have to drive the speed limit

Hmmm... I like the idea of "hypermiling" (as a label) - but in a different context.

Personally, I like the idea of driving a whole lot of miles, at fairly high speeds (5-10 over the limit, thanks to cruise control and open stretches of road).

However, I fully agree with not needing to "floor it" when going from "Stop" to "Start".

And do it all with a Mini, while getting about 400 miles to the tank. Shameless plug, I know. But I am very glad, now, that I've switched from my Explorer to the Mini (S).
